Sustainable standards

As part of Kering, Dodo is engaged in a multifaceted strategy to achieve a more sustainable and responsible definition of luxury. The house and its partners follow codes and standards developed and refined by Kering since the group’s establishment of its first code of ethics 25 years ago. These open-source guidelines, which are reviewed and updated regularly in consultation with subject-matter experts, address topics such as human rights, biodiversity, raw material sourcing, and internal operations.

Sustainable Sourcing

Dodo monitors and evaluates its environmental impact through the Environmental Profit & Loss account (a link to this document is available at www.kering.com), published each year by the Kering Group. The company has obtained RJC certification from the Responsible Jewellery Council (renewed at the end of 2019), and annually performs due diligence towards its commercial partners to verify any deviations from the OCSE guidelines, and has not identified risks to human rights along its supply chain. All of the transactions were considered in the checks performed in compliance with the RJC principles and have been classified as low risk. Dodo has achieved its objective of guaranteeing that the gold supply is 100% sustainable thanks to the Kering RESPONSIBLE Gold Framework programme. Alongside this core objective is our constant pursuit of sustainable silver sources and the transparent and traceable sourcing of diamonds and coloured stones. The company has also committed to launching a capsule collection using only Fairmined certified gold.

Innovative jewel creation, milanese tradition

A leader in the Italian jewelry industry, DoDo’s ‘charming jewelry’ carves the niche between fashion and fine jewelry. Unrestricted by the dogmas of High Jewelry, DoDo is free to innovate with new materials including gold-plated silver, semi-precious gemstones, titanium, or recycled plastics, while using traditional Milanese techniques to make its quality creations. Together with Pomellato, its sister jewelry brand, DoDo collaborates to fund the Galdus Goldsmith Academy in Milan, investing in Italy’s youth, fostering innovation, honing goldsmith skills, and safeguarding the precious Italian craftsmanship tradition.

The environmental profit and loss statement

Every year, Dodo draws up the EP&L Environmental Profit & Loss statement. All along the supply chain - from raw material extraction to the sales point - measurements are taken of CO2 emissions, water consumption, water pollution, land exploitation, atmospheric pollution and waste production. A monetary value is assigned to the resulting indexes to quantify the use of natural resources at various levels and to identify possible areas of intervention. The most significant impacts are generated during production and the processing of raw materials which account for 80% of the total. Constant research into sustainable sources has enabled the company to make the transition from traditionally sourced silver to RJC COC recycled sources in 2022, with a consequent 83% reduction of impact in terms of EP&L.

Materials

Every Dodo jewel is made exclusively from 100% responsibly mined gold from the Kering Responsible Gold Framework. Gold and, since 2022, silver as well are extracted from certified mines that comply with international legislation on the transparency and traceability of raw materials (RJC COC certification), or from production chains engaged in safeguarding the environment and in important environmental sustainability projects. Dodo diamonds are also supplied by operators that are certified by RJC, an institution engaged in guaranteeing a responsible supply chain, in which human rights and the environment are respected.

Dodo, Jewelry’s Eco-Conscious Leader

DoDo, the Milanese Maison of charms and jewels with an unwavering spirit of sustainability, is proud to lead the world of jewelry in measures to protect and restore the environment. Together with Pomellato, DoDo’s sister jewelry Maison and its partner under the Kering Group, the Italian jewelers are among the industry’s very first to use 100% responsibly sourced gold for their iconic creations, since 2018. Before such devotion was trendy or even commonplace, DoDo was founded in 1994 with the premise of conservation and environmentalism – a pioneer of the green movement. Over the years, from helping protect endangered species with WWF Italy to rebuilding marine ecosystems with DoDo x Tēnaka today, DoDo has remained vigilant in its eco-commitment to the earth and to its lifeforms.

DODO RENEWS ITS COMMITMENT: STILL ALONGSIDE TENAKA TO PROTECT THE JEWELS OF THE SEA

DoDo, born 30 years ago with a green soul, renews its support to the Tēnaka for the regeneration of a stretch of coral reef in Malaysia. Not everyone knows that the ocean is responsible for half of the oxygen we breathe: corals and marine ecosystems are true 'jewels of the sea', they are vital for the survival of many species.

WWF ITALIA

Historic supporter of the activities of the WWF Italia, in 2021 DoDo contributed to the actions undertakes for the defense of Mediterranean Caretta Caretta turtles in the WWF oasis of Policoro in Basilicata. In 2022, the partnership "took wing" with DoDo's support of the butterfly garden in the WWF oasis of Le Cesine in Apulia, with the goal of protecting biodiversity. In 2023, DoDo protected nature and its precious ecosystem by supporting the project dedicated to the osprey, one of the rarest birds of prey in Italy.
This year, DoDo renews its commitment to the environment and biodiversity by supporting WWF activities aimed at conservation of a species iconic to our seas: the Mediterranean Monk Seal. It's possible to admire large groups of monk seals beached on the coast of Liguria or in Orosei in Sardinia only in photos from the turn of the century. Since then, the collapse of the population has been caused by illegal hunting, coastal development, marine pollution and accidental fishing.
The Mediterranean monk seal has become one of the most threatened animals on the planet but, although it is currently considered a very vulnerable and at-risk species, it is showing positive signs of recovery. DoDo can't help but keep this iconic pinniped at the heart of its green mission, supporting the actions of the WWF in favouring such a fragile species.

Treedom

Recognizing that the earth is as important as its inhabitants, in 2019 DoDo collaborated with Treedom, an online platform to adopt a tree and watch it grow from afar. The sustainability initiative aided in reforestation, enhancing productivity in rural areas, and countering air pollution. Designing a custom Cherry Tree charm, proceeds from the “tree for a tree” program were used to plant new trees and fund sustainable development in Haiti. The “tree adopters” were able to watch them grow virtually, and the effort allowed the Haitian forest to absorb 93.40 kg of CO2 in the course of their growth. Sustainability is a mindset and a culture, the company encourages Earth-conscious initiatives. On the occasion of the collaboration with Treedom in fact, the company has decided to actively involve each of its employees in the world by giving them a tree to adopt and follow in their growth. This is how the Dodo Forest was born.
